Easing Dartford Crossing Congestion

The Department for Transport has announced measures to improve traffic flows across the Dartford River Crossing. In a statement issued alongside the Comprehensive Spending Review it was revealed that the Department will embark on an assessment of the options for future capacity increases at Dartford, funded by toll charges.

Harsh Consequences for Drugs Smugglers

James Brokenshire has warned of the severe consequnces of smuggling drugs during a visit to Sarita Colonia jail in Peru. The Minister for Crime Prevention spoke with UK citizens convicted for drugs offences about their experiences and saw for himself the harsh conditions in the prison. They included one prisoner who is serving six years and eight months for trafficking cocaine.

Royal Navy Praise

James Brokenshire has praised the work of the Royal Navy in stopping illegal drugs reaching the UK during a visit to HMS Portland in Lima.  Speaking to the crew of the frigate the Minister for Crime Prevention thanked the crew for their service and professionalism as the vessel commenced work on anti-narcotics patrols in the Carribean. 

Defer QMH Decision

James Brokenshire has called on local hospital chiefs to defer any decision on the ‘temporary' closures of A&E and maternity services at Queen Mary's Sidcup until an independent safety audit has reported.

James Brokenshire has given his backing to Macmillan Cancer Support's annual fundraising event - 'The World's Biggest Coffee Morning'.  The MP attended local events at the Macmillan Cancer Centre at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup and at Baltimore Place, East Wickham.
