Change Hospital Ownership to Secure its Future

Old Bexley & Sidcup MP James Brokenshire has called for Queen Mary’s Hospital to be transferred to a different NHS organisation to help secure the hospital’s long-term future.  The MP has written to local NHS Executives calling for the Sidcup hospital to be transferred from the South London Healthcare NHS Trust which currently owns and runs the site to the Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust which operates urgent care and other services from Queen Mary’s.

Neighbourhood Watch underlines how simple steps can reduce crime risk

Bexley Borough Neighbourhood Watch Association will be raising awareness of simple crime prevention tips in Bexleyheath Broadway this Saturday between 10am and 3pm to encourage people to make their road a Neighbourhood Watch area and help cut crime.  Details of the event - which forms part of Neighbourhood Watch Week - were revealed at the organisation’s annual general meeting at Bexley Council’s Civic Offices on Monday night.

James Brokenshire has given his support to the launch of a new scheme to back 18 - 24 year old entrepreneurs with finance and support. The £82.5m programme could potentially start over 30 thousand new businesses, in a move to boost enterprise and economic growth.

Bexley Celebrates the Diamond Jubilee

Crowds thronged the ‘Golden Acre’ in Bexley Village on Monday night to watch the lighting of the special beacon as part of Bexley’s celebrations for Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  The beacon was lit by the Mayor of Bexley Councillor Allan Downing after the Bishop of Rochester led prayers for the Queen, the Country and the Commonwealth.

James Brokenshire will join the Bishop of Rochester and the Mayor of Bexley at a special Diamond Jubilee Beacon event in Bexley Village on Monday night. The event which has been organised by Churches Together in Bexley Village forms part of the weekend of celebrations to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s 60th anniversary on the throne. Beacons will be lit around the country on Monday evening with the Bexley Village event starting at 9.45pm at the ‘Golden Acre’ Park.

Bishop's Visit to Bexley

The strength of community spirit and the level of voluntary activity has been highlighted by the Bishop of Tonbridge during a weeklong visit to Old Bexley and Sidcup. Right Reverend Brian Castle gave his thoughts during a meeting with James Brokenshire MP which formed the final event of his local tour.

River Cray Consultation

James Brokenshire has met with the Environment Agency to discuss long-term plans to improve the natural habitat and ecology of the River Cray.  The Environment Agency is currently seeking feedback from community groups and the public on how the biodiversity of the River Cray can be enhanced.

Employment Tribunal reforms aimed to help boost jobs

James Brokenshire has welcomed new Government proposals to speed the resolution of employment disputes saying they will give firms greater confidence to take on staff.  The measures are contained in the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill which has just been introduced into the House of Commons.
