James Brokenshire has remained in regular contact with the Post Office underlining the need to see that a branch on Sidcup High Street is re-opened as speedily as possible.
Following recent enquiries James made with the Post Office, they have confirmed that they received an application to take on the new branch in Sidcup shortly after the resignation of the former Postmaster which is actively being pursued with the necessary checks expected to be completed shortly.
James also recently raised the issue of the capacity problems the Post Office in the Happy Shopper, Station Road were experiencing as a result of the temporary closure of the Post Office on Sidcup High Street. The Post Office have since provided assurance that they have visited the Postmaster of the Happy Shopper Post Office numerous times and have provided additional support in order to deliver a level of service both the shop and customers are happy with.
Commenting, James said:
“I remain disappointed by the closure of the Sidcup High Street Post Office and recognise the importance of Post Office services to Sidcup which is reflected in the number of people who used the previous branch, as well as the overall impact on the high street.”
“I am maintaining pressure on the Post Office to prioritise a replacement branch to ensure the minimum disruption for local residents. I am pleased that the Post Office have confirmed that there is interest in taking on the new branch and I am therefore hopeful that a Post Office will be restored in the new year.”
