James Brokenshire has welcomed new figures showing that the number of private sector businesses in London and the South East has risen by 319,700 since the last General Election, creating jobs and helping to rebuild our economy.
At the start of 2014 there were a record-breaking 5 million private sector businesses across the UK. This is an annual increase of 333,000 businesses, or 7 per cent, since the start of 2013. There are now over three quarters of a million more private sector businesses than there were in 2010.
Commenting on the publication of the figures, James said:
"These new figures are positive news for the UK, with more businesses creating even more new jobs for people. The importance of reviving our economy and getting people back into work should not be underestimated and the success of these businesses and of the wider UK economy is vital too, ensuring that Government has the money to pay for our valuable public services like the NHS. ”
