James Brokenshire has written to the Transport Secretary to ask what assessment he has made of Southeastern Trains performance after numerous complaints from commuters over continued reliability issues. Train services from Bexley were badly affected during the recent snow and serious complaints were made about poor communication and co-ordination at that time. However, continued concerns over late running, reduced numbers of carriages on services and cancellations continue to be highlighted and James Brokenshire has asked for a formal examination of the situation.
Commenting James said:
"We need to know how Southeastern are performing against the terms of their franchise agreement. I've asked the Transport Secretary Philip Hammond what formal appraisal has been made and what steps will be taken if Southeastern have fallen short of their contractual obligations. If they are performing below their requirements as a number of commuters have been suggesting to me then firm action should be taken."
The MP will be meeting with representatives from Southeastern shortly to highlight passenger concerns.
