James Brokenshire has encouraged constituents to contribute their views to the recently launched Boundary Commission Consultation on UK Parliamentary constituency boundaries.
The proposals are designed to equalise the size of constituencies and the number of electorates to adjust to population changes, whilst taking into account local ties and geographical considerations.
For Old Bexley and Sidcup, the changes proposed are to maintain most of the current boundary of the constituency except to realign the constituency boundaries with the local government ward boundaries used for elections to the London Borough of Bexley. This will increase the size of the new constituency by taking in some additional parts of Falconwood and Welling ward and East Wickham ward which are currently within the Bexleyheath and Crayford constituency.
The Boundary Commission have also proposed that as a result of these changes, the name of the constituency should become Sidcup and Welling rather that Old Bexley and Sidcup.
The Consultation on the Boundary Commission’s initial proposals runs until 2 August 2021. To submit your comments as part of the consultation and view the proposals in full, please click here.
