The Home Secretary has announced that James Brokenshire will take over responsibility for security and counter-terrorism in the Home Office. James's new brief will include security for the London Olympic Games.
Commenting on James Brokenshire's new role, Home Secretary Theresa May said:
"Maintaining public safety and security remains my top priority and I will continue to take the lead for the department in ensuring the UK's national security and counter-terrorism strategy responds to the evolving terrorist threat.
"To support me in this important work I am pleased to announce that James Brokenshire will be taking on the role of Parliamentary Under Secretary for Crime and Security."
James Brokenshire said:
"Protecting this country from the threat of terrorism is one of the fundamental responsibilities of any government. It is a privilege to have been given this role and I am looking forward to meeting the undoubted challenges that my new position will bring."
