New Immigration Minister

James Brokenshire has been promoted within the Home Office to serve as the Immigration Minister.  In this new role James has responsibility for Government immigration policy, securing the UK's borders and operational oversight of the work of UK Border Force, UK Visas & Immigration and Immigration Enforcement. The MP received news of his promotion during a telephone call with the Prime Minister on Saturday lunchtime.

Commenting on his appointment James said:

"I feel very honoured to have been asked to take on the important role of Immigration Minister and to continue work to reduce net migration to sustainable levels."

Home Secretary, Rt Hon. Theresa May MP said:

"James Brokenshire's well-deserved promotion is a testament to the ability and diligence he has shown in the Home Office since 2010."
