James Brokenshire has been re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Old Bexley & Sidcup.

James received 24,682 votes at Thursday’s General Election representing 52.8% of the votes cast and giving him a majority of 15,803.  The total turnout in Old Bexley & Sidcup was 71%.

Speaking at the Election Count held at the Crook Log Leisure Centre in Bexleyheath James said that he was “humbled and honoured” to have received the backing of people in Old Bexley & Sidcup and he would do his utmost to fulfil the renewed trust which had been placed in him.

Commenting James said:

“It is a fantastic privilege to represent a community like Old Bexley & Sidcup”.

“In the last five years we’ve seen significant improvements. The number of people claiming out of work benefits fallen by a half, new businesses are opening up, crime is down and investment in Sidcup has helped transform the High Street.

"But I recognise there is still more to be done. I will do my utmost to see that this area continues to flourish and remains the wonderful place it is to live in and work in.

“I will also continue to stand up for those in need of help and support, whatever their political views.”
