James Brokenshire has welcomed news that the number of people without work in the constituency continues to fall. The unemployment rate in Old Bexley and Sidcup currently stands at 1.4%, making it one of the top 20% of best performing constituencies when it comes to the number of people in work.
There are now 407 more people in work across Sidcup, Bexley, Blackfen, Falconwood and Welling than there were last year and the number of people in employment continues to grow. Nationally, some 121,000 people have found jobs over the course of the last three months as the total number of people in work continues to rise. Importantly, youth unemployment is also at a lower level than when the Government came to power in 2010.
Commenting James said:
“It is good to see more jobs being created for local people and that Bexley continues to attract new businesses and employment, but there is still more work to do. That’s why the Government continues to focus on making the UK the best place to start and run a business and to cut taxes to ensure that people in work keep more of their hard-earned pay.”
