Rally urges NHS Administrator to commit to Queen Mary’s Future

“Listen to the voice of the community and secure the future of Queen Mary’s Hospital”.  That was the clear message to the Administrator currently running the Sidcup hospital as local campaigners took part in a demonstration calling on him to commit to Queen Mary’s.

James Brokenshire has underlined that despite the security success of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the UK cannot afford to “take its eye off the ball” in the fight against terrorism.  In a keynote speech at the Royal United Services Institute the Security Minister set out some of the key challenges for combatting terrorism after the Games and how the UK was responding to an evolving threat picture.

Boundary Change Improvement

Revised proposals for new Parliamentary constituencies for Bexley published by the Boundary Constituency this week more closely reflect local community ties according to James Brokenshire.  The Commission’s updated plans would mean changes to the current electoral boundaries but unlike previous proposals wouldn’t split Bexleyheath, Welling and Crayford between constituencies.

Saying "Yes" to QMS

James Brokenshire is urging the Administrator of the South London Healthcare NHS Trust to say “yes” to the future of Queen Mary’s Hospital as plans for local hospitals start to be finalised.  The MP is backing the “QM Yes” Campaign to press the Administrator to secure the long-term future of the Sidcup Hospital as part of his recommendations for NHS acute care.

Conference Youth Crime Debate

James Brokenshire has underlined the need for early intervention and for local agencies to work together more closely to break youth offending during this week’s Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham.  The Home Office Minister also stressed the need to recognise the positive contribution made by young people and to ensure that they were involved in the formation of local crime prevention and community safety plans.

Cut in Rail Fare Rise

James Brokenshire has said news that national rail fare increases are to be curbed will be extremely welcome news for commuters.  The Prime Minister announced during the Conservative Party Conference that the Government will cap rail fares at RPI+1 per cent in 2013 and 2014.

James Brokenshire joined staff and customers at Barclays Bank in Sidcup today to have a coffee and a cake and help raise funds for cancer care.  The event was just one of dozens of coffee mornings across Bexley forming part of “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.
