Bishop's Visit to Bexley

The strength of community spirit and the level of voluntary activity has been highlighted by the Bishop of Tonbridge during a weeklong visit to Old Bexley and Sidcup. Right Reverend Brian Castle gave his thoughts during a meeting with James Brokenshire MP which formed the final event of his local tour.

James met Bishop Brian in Bexley Village with Reverend Scott Lamb, the Vicar of St John the Evangelist, Bexley and introduced the Bishop to some local businesses as well as discussing potential challenges and opportunities for the local community.  During his visit the Bishop visited local schools, community groups, churches and Queen Mary's Hospital.

Commenting James Brokenshire said:

"It was really interesting to hear Bishop Brian's observations of his week. What was striking and heartening were his comments about the strength and vibrancy of local community activity and the number of people who give up their time to help others.  Sometimes it's easy to overlook how important this is and what a big difference this makes. It was helpful to share ideas on how we can strengthen this further and do more to bring the local community even closer together."
