A landslip has blocked the train line at Barnehurst causing significant disruption right across Southeastern Metro services.
James Brokenshire has contacted Network Rail for assurances on the steps being taken to see that services are restored as soon as possible. Network Rail have advised that managers and engineers are currently on site in order to assess the extent of the problems and hope to be able to provide more information shortly, but they have warned that the Bexleyheath line is not expected to reopen until the start of service on Thursday 14 January.
Passengers are advised to use lines from Dartford to Lewisham via Sidcup or Greenwich and avoid the Bexleyheath line. Rail Replacement buses are operating between Barnehurst and Lewisham.
Passengers are advised to monitor travel updates on the Southeastern website and on Twitter.
Southeastern have underlined that passengers who are delayed by 30 minutes or more are entitled to compensation using the Delay Repay system.
James will be remaining in contact with Southeastern and Network Rail to seek updates on progress with the clearance and emergency engineering works.
