I am disappointed that the Sidcup Post Office temporary closed on 28th June following the resignation of the Postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises. I recognise the importance of Post Office services to Sidcup which is reflected in the number of people who use the existing branch.
I have written to the Post Office to express my concern over the temporary closure of the Post Office given the reliance people place on being able to access the services of the Post Office in Sidcup. I have underlined the need for urgent steps to be taken to identify a new site and Postmaster and minimise disruption. As well as the Post Office, I have been in contact with Bexley Council and Sidcup Partners to see that all options are being pursued to locate new premises and see that a new branch is opened as quickly as possible.
The Post Office are now seeking a replacement Postmaster to run a Post Office in Sidcup and are advertising the opportunity via their Run a Post Office website - https://runapostoffice.co.uk/home/result/show/sidcup-post-office-sidcup…
The replacement Post Office will also be a ‘Main branch’ which operates from a dedicated Post Office area as well as a service point on the retail counter and offers the widest range of Post Office services.
I will maintain pressure on the Post Office to prioritise a replacement branch established to ensure the minimum disruption for local residents.
